Respect All Religions

Respect All Religions

“Respect all Religions”, is the famous and politically correct phrase. This is used by most people to show that they have a big and liberal heart. Who uses this phrase never understand it’s depth and implications.

The phrase “Respect all Religions” is an unconditional statement. It means, one is supposed to respect the religion no matter what its teachings are. Let’s assume there exist following religions

  1. A
  2. B
  3. C

And religion C claims that it is the only true religion and the people who worship other religion are demons.

If one applies the principle of “Respect all Religions” unconditionally, then he/she will end up respecting all religions including Religion C. Here, this religion is talking the language of persecution. Such a person will end up indirectly supporting religious persecution.

So what is the solution? The solution probably is to

  1. Use the brain instead of living on the slogan.
  2. Stop being too much politically correct to impress others.
  3. Have the skill to confront the bigotry in a smooth way.

In the above case, we can try to convince the preachers of Religion C, to remove the teaching which looks down upon the other religions. This approach will help to create harmony in the society. Note, here we aren’t condemning the religion as a whole, instead asking them not to teach disrespectful teachings.

Here, initial confrontation may look like disturbing the existing artificial peace. But in the long run, society will become peaceful and harmonious. But, if we don’t confront, it gives a false sense of peace and harmony and in the end, when Religion C gains the position of advantage, persecution will follow.
